During IGN Fan Fest, the first gameplay trailer for the “Astraeos Mega Update” was released today. This massive expansion to the mythic, Greek Odyssey-inspired world in Ark Survival Ascended looks to introduce a brand new region, a tamable fortress, and a boss encounter for the ages!
What is New in Astraeos?
Astraeos continues to expand with a vast new desert region shaped by myth and ruin. The sands within the Pyranthos Wasteland constantly shift only to reveal forgotten structures, buried pathways, and unexplored artifact caves. And while secrets are in no shortage in this new update, you must not forget the new cast of powerful creatures that stalk both the surface and subterranean depths.
The Grand Tortugar
To survive within the wasteland, you will need more than a simple shelter to overcome the elements. The Grand Tortugar is a living amphibious fortress whose primary skill is endurance. With The Grand Tortugar, you’ll be able to traverse the land and ocean floor with ease, all while harvesting valuable resources. Survivors can also open its armored carapace to create a roaming command post or seal it shut to transform into a nearly unbreakable warmachine.
Something Straight Out of Myth
The surface is home to plenty of challenges, creatures, and secrets to uncover, yet what lies beneath the surface is something to behold. Buried deep within the Pyranthos ruins lies the five-headed Hydra. This new overworld boss will require teamwork, timing, and overwhelming firepower to bring down. Upon severing each head from the body of the Hydra, the flow of combat will be altered, which will force tribes to think outside the box when delivering the final blow.

Originally launched as a community mod by the acclaimed creator Nekatus before it became an Official Partner DLC, Astraeos continuously evolves with new creatures, bosses, cosmetics, and myth-inspired gameplay challenges. The Astraeos Mega Update marks the largest expansion to the map since its debut.
