Do you want to deal non-lethal damage in Baldur’s Gate 3? Instead of killing your enemies, how about you try simply knocking them unconscious and leaving them to reflect on the butt-kicking they received? You can do this in Baldur’s Gate 3 but it isn’t immediately known how. You have to figure it out on your own.

Combat is very normal in Baldur’s Gate 3 but there may be moments when you need to keep an enemy alive. Sometimes, that enemy can be an ally so it helps not to kill them. It is during these times that non-lethal damage is not only nice but necessary. Unless you want to waste a Revivify Scroll. This guide will show you how to deal non-lethal damage in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3: How to knock out enemies

If you want to knock out a foe in Baldur’s Gate 3, you simply need to toggle non-lethal damage on. To turn on non-lethal damage, start by selecting the passives option on your interactive menu at the bottom of your screen.

There is only one option that appears in the passives menu and that is non-lethal damage. Select this option to turn it on or off. While non-lethal damage is active, you will see the non-lethal damage condition above your inventory icon and next to each character’s icon on the left side of the screen.

Remember that for non-lethal damage to be effective, you either need to be holding a melee weapon or be unarmed. This damage option does not apply to undead enemies or constructs. Enemies of those types that are brought to zero hit points will ultimately end up dying instead of falling unconscious.

Non-lethal damage is important to turn on during certain sections of the game. For instance, if you are wearing the Mask of Whispers, a character can fall under the control of Auntie Ethel, causing them to attack you. Rather than wasting a scroll on reviving them, you can simply knock them out.
