Now that Mauga has been out for a little bit in Overwatch 2, we all have a better understanding of how he works. Upon release, he was a little too daunting and received some nerfs. While he’s not as scary as he was before, a good Mauga can still carry a team pretty easily. When that happens, you need a good plan for dealing with him. Here are the best Mauga counter picks in Overwatch 2.

Biggest counters to Mauga in Overwatch 2

While Mauga is a mountain in-game, he is not invincible. This Overwatch 2 Tank wants to sustain the fight, so you want heroes that can deal high damage or finish him off when he is low health. Anyone who can sustain or nullify his damage will also be good for your team. Here is our list of the best Mauga counter picks in Overwatch 2 to slow him down and how to use them:

  • Ana – A well-aimed Sleep Dart and Biotic Grenade can be as devastating to Mauga as it is to Roadhog.
  • Zenyatta – Keep Discord Orb on Mauga to make it much easier to take him down.
  • Bastion – Use a lot of cover and keep as much distance as possible while firing into Mauga in Turret Configuration.
  • Genji – Never stop moving, and Mauga will have a hard time hitting you.
  • Reaper – Coordinate with your team to deal heavy damage to him or focus on his Supports.
  • Sombra – Use EMP to shut down Mauga’s Ultimate instantly and save your teammates.
  • Tracer – *See Genji description.
  • Junkrat – Mauga is a bit target, so let loose those grenades and trap him in Steel Traps.
  • Zarya – Use Mauga’s liberal use of fire to max out your bubble charge. Be sure always to have cover to sneak behind when your Bubble Shield is on cooldown, though.
  • D.Va – Use Defense Matrix to minimize his damage in key situations. Always use your Boosters to get to safety when the matrix is refueling.
  • Orisa – Use Fortify and Javelin Spin to limit Mauga’s damage on you as you command his attention. Throw a Javelin to stun him and give your teammates a chance to take him down.

In general, you want to limit Mauga’s firepower as much as possible. Whether using cover or various abilities to accomplish that, you can outlast him. Be sure to aim to remove the Supports keeping him in the fight for the most success.
