The Recon ability has been creating quite a stir recently with many Black Ops 6 players agreeing that it is overpowered. Many have stated that it rewards players for dying and that it shouldn’t be in the game. At the very least, the perk bonus should be changed around a bit to make things a bit more fair for everyone in the game. If you are on the side that believes the Black Ops 6 ability should be changed, you may be in luck as it looks like a nerf may be in the works. At least, that is what many believe after seeing a response from Associate Director Matt Scronce.

Recently, many have been flooding the Black Ops 6 Reddit page with clips of them dying to the Recon ability. If you weren’t aware, the Recon perk is given to you if you have three recon perks equipped on a class. These include Ghost, Ninja, Engineer, Tracker, Forward Intel, Vigilance, and Cold-Blooded. Having three of these perks equipped grants you the ability to see enemies through walls after you die and respawn. It has also led to many getting their killstreaks ended because an enemy spawns and shoots them through a wall immediately. Needless to say, Black Ops 6 players are sick of getting shot through walls.

Recently, streamer FaZe Swagg tagged Treyarch in a post on X telling the devs to “Nerf Recon Plz (please).” In response to this post, Associate Director Matt Scronce replied, “Incoming.” This is not exactly a guarantee that the devs will be nerfing the Recon buff but it does show that something may be in the works over at Treyarch to either limit the ability of this perk or change it altogether.

The Black Ops 6 Recon nerf could lead to many being upset that they lost the ability they like, but it is best for the community as a whole that the ability gets nerfed. After using it myself for a while, it does seem to be overpowered. Some have pointed out that the issue with the perk is only on small maps which we do agree with. Perhaps the perk could be limited to use only on large maps to prevent it from being overpowered.

Update – Recon Bonus Receives Nerf in Latest Patch

The latest patch for Black Ops 6 brought a nerf to the Recon bonus. The latest patch notes read, “Reduced duration that enemies are highlighted after respawning to 1.5 seconds from 2 seconds. An additional reduction will be coming before Season 01.” As you can see, there will be an additional nerf to the ability coming before the start of season 1. Those of you who are currently using the Recon perk to its advantage will need to get as much use out of it as you can before the time limit gets reduced again.
