Grave robber, aspiring Vault Hunter, and annoyance. Ava has gone by many names over the years since Borderlands 3 was released. Thanks to a recent post on X, Borderlands fans reminisce about how much they hate this mistake of a character and overall bad Siren choice. If you are a fan of the beloved looter-shooter series, prepare for a trip down memory lane.

The Borderlands X page has been quite active lately with some posts even suggesting we could see an announcement about Borderlands 4. One of the latest posts is doing the opposite of bringing hope for a future installment and, instead, reminded fans of one of Borderlands 3’s pitfalls; the siren apprentice named Ava.

In a post asking fans to name their favorite Borderlands dynamic duo, many responded with hate. YouTuber Ki11er Six responded, “Ava and a pile of dust.” This is no doubt a reference to how Ava got Maya killed in the game. Another user commented, “Ava and a bottomless pit.” One fan even commented, “The worst character ever. Remove Ava from the game.”

The hate for Ava isn’t a surprise considering she got one of the fans’ favorite characters in the series killed near the beginning of Borderlands 3. Once that happened, everyone looked at Ava with disdain and it has never changed. Gearbox even tried remedying the situation with the Director’s Cut but that did little to change anyone’s mind. All that did was make fans realize Ava could have been a better character had the company not messed things up. She is expected to be in the next Borderlands title after taking on the role of Siren and inheriting Maya’s powers. If there is another time skip, we could see a more adult Ava who is hopefully a better character than her younger self. What do you think? is Ava really the mistake many see her as?
