Many have fond memories of the original Fable games, and for those who played the entire series, they know about the immortal dog companion. Starting in Fable 2, there was a dog companion that aided you during your journey. They would bark at enemies, detect treasure, and would even change appearance based on your morality. Of course, this changed slightly in Fable 3, but there are plenty of fond memories to be had with your pup. Unfortunately, those fond memories won’t be carrying over into the upcoming Fable title, as the developers have confirmed that there is no dog companion in Albion this time around.
Fable Won’t Have a Dog Companion
Ralph Fulton of Playground Games recently spoke to IGN about some of the features in Fable. During this interview, Fulton admitted that he is the one who decided not to include the dog in the upcoming game. He also admitted that there are some members of the team who aren’t very happy about it.
“I did know I was going to get this question. And do you know what? There are some folks on the team that were relishing me getting this question because I cut it a while back. You know what? For development reasons, right? I don’t need to go into any more detail than that, except to say there are a substantial number of people on the team who have yet to forgive me for that decision.”
The major reason Fulton said the dog was removed is “development reasons.” There is no more information than that, but there are a number of people in the studio who have yet to forgive him. Of course, the original Fable title did not have the dog companion, so it isn’t unlike the series to exclude man’s best friend. Hopefully, everyone can look past the absence of this friendly canine and be enamored by the rest of the game.
