Borderlands 4 finally has a release date and it is set for September 23, 2025. With this release date, however, came another trailer that is full of hidden secrets for fans to discover. Before you ask, there aren’t any messages to decipher but there are tidbits about the gameplay that we can piece together. With how fast the trailer went by, many were bound to miss some of these key details. Here are 10 details you missed in the Borderlands 4 release date trailer.
10. Armor plates kept dropping

Throughout the trailer, there were armor plates that kept dropping from killed enemies. These plates are bright orange and have a reddish/orange beam of light coming off of them almost as if they are a legendary item. This leads us to believe that there could be an armor system added to Borderlands 4. This could also be a way of hiding legendary items dropped from fallen foes. Our bets are on the former being the more accurate answer.
9. Tediore weapon split in two

Tediore weapons are well-known for making guns that explode. Whether this is a fiery explosion, a nova, or a gun that bounces around wildly across the battlefield, you know a Tedior weapon when you see it in action. The Vault Hunter we have been calling the Bladedancer can be seen throwing a Tediore weapon at two enemies before it splits in two, hitting both foes. This appears to be a new style of reload added to Borderlands 4 that will double the amount of mayhem inflicted with Tediore guns.
8. Vault Hunters can swim

In a strange twist, Vault Hunters have finally learned to swim in Borderlands 4. It only took them five games to figure it out, but we get a glimpse of one of the Vault Hunters swimming to shore before dispatching a group of enemies. This comes directly after watching one of the Vault Hunters get launched into the water and the screen goes black. This makes us question whether or not there will be underwater areas in Borderlands 4.
7. The Engineer’s action skill is colorful

We have dubbed one of the Vault Hunters the Engineer. This is thanks to her sci-fi-esque pants and look that seems as though it was ripped straight from Maliwan. Want to know what else looks like Maliwan tech? Her action skill. In the trailer, we see this Vault Hunter pull out a large device that shoots some sort of orb at an enemy. This enemy then starts to glow every color of the rainbow before dying. Maybe this inflicts him with every type of elemental damage.
6. Introducing: throwing knives

Near the end of the trailer, the Siren character whips out a throwing knife, hits an enemy with it, and causes him to explode into a nasty pile of blood and guts. This is the first time throwing knives have appeared in the game and they already look amazingly powerful. We also wonder what took them so long to add this universally popular weapon to the game. It doesn’t matter. What does matter is that we think it will be Jakobs branded.
5. You can fly, you can fly

Okay, so you can’t really fly in the game. At least, not that we know of. You can, however, glide. This was briefly shown off by a Vault Hunter raining down rockets on unsuspecting foes near a dock. The glide was then later confirmed to be a real mechanic via a post on the PlayStation X page. We will officially have the ability to not only double-jump but glide over our opponents and rain gunfire down on them from above. It’s about time.
4. Damage indicators

There is a brief moment where you can catch damage indicators in the bottom corners of the screen. These are more prominent on the right side of the screen as you can tell by the image above. They disappear as the Vault Hunter in the scene moves away from the laser that is pointing directly at them, showing that we will get notified if we are about to get hit by something powerful like a mounted rocket launcher or minigun.
3. A nice cryo nova

In the previous trailer, we got a glimpse of what could be one of the action skills for the Bladedancer. He was seen swinging around blades attached to his arms via a rig – hence the name. This time, however, we get to see him pull out some sort of Hyperion-looking weapon and fire a projectile that explodes into a cryo nova. This could be hinting at a second action skill for the character or this could be his one and only action skill while the other was his melee attack.
2. The leech Siren

We talked before about what abilities the new Siren could have in Borderlands 4. Overall, we deduced that there are three abilities she could possibly have with one of them being Tyreen’s powers from Borderlands 3. The release date trailer certainly doesn’t shy away from the theme of leeching life. After all, it shows a doppelganger summoned with a scythe that could be used to steal life from enemies. We also see her use some sort of energy blast earlier in the trailer that rips an enemy’s skin off.
1. Artificial Siren

We’ve talked about some Siren theories and one of the big ones is that this Siren could be artificial. While it might have seemed coincidental before thanks to her appearing a few times in the first gameplay trailer without tattoos, now it seems definitive as she appears in the latest trailer in first-person POV without the signature Siren tattoos. This happens twice in the trailer where we get a clear shot of her arm without her signature tattoos. What is going on here?
