If you’re looking for soothing tones that remind you of tombs, mushrooms, and tentacles, the Necrom soundtrack is here. Just shy of a year after Necrom released, the soundtrack includes nine tracks from the Elder Scrolls Online DLC.
There are plenty of times I find myself just standing in the world of Elder Scrolls Online listening to the music. With Necrom taking the player back to Morrowind, I’m a major sucker for this soundtrack. Morrowind was my first Elder Scrolls game so, I have fond memories of the culture, creatures, and characters you met in the third game in the series.
When it was announced ESO would be heading back to Morrowind, the theme from Bethesda’s third game hit my head and hasn’t really left it. So, I waited until Necrom released and spent the summer of 2023 exploring the City of the Dead. It wasn’t long until I got lost in the game’s music once again. Then I waited for the soundtrack to release on Spotify, other streaming services are available, and I waited and waited. At long last Zenimax released it to the world on May 10 and my Spotify will now tell me I’ve listened to hours of it by the end of the year.
Morrowind has a special place in my heart. We all remember our first Elder Scrolls game and why it struck a chord with us. Whether it’s hearing the deep voice of Jiub say, “Well, not even last night’s storm could wake you. I’ve heard them say we’ve reached Morrowind, I’m sure they’ll let us go.” Entering Oblivion for the first time, or taking an arrow to the knee in Skyrim, we all have a core Elder Scrolls game we go back to.
It’s no wonder Morrowind is mine. It’s been set as my main screen music for Elder Scrolls Online for the entire year. The score is iconic and every time I go back to a Morrowind centric location, that theme hits me like a cliff racer screech while I wonder the mountains. Except without the gut-wrenching fear of searching for the flying creature only to swing my sword at it multiple times hoping to fell it.
You know what, forget that description. The Necrom soundtrack is stunning, provocative, and sets the tone for the creepy and adventure feel of exploring Morrowind and Apocrypha.
