Borderlands 4 didn’t have the best launch. It was riddled with glitches and bugs, and it crashed constantly on PC. Two months later, and around 95% of the player base on Steam left for greener pastures. Recent reports have also shown that Borderlands 4 did not perform as well as 2K had hoped it would. With all of that being said, Gearbox and 2K are now trying to appeal to the community by giving away the first DLC for Borderlands 4 for free.

Borderlands 4 DLC 1 Is Free For Everyone

Earlier today, 2K and Gearbox announced that the first DLC for Borderlands 4, titled How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, is now free for everyone. The DLC launched at 9am PT for everyone who bought the title. The news was announced via the 2K Newsroom, in a post that reads, “In the spirit of the season, and as a thank you to the community for their passion and support, 2K and Gearbox are excited to provide Bounty Pack 1 to all Borderlands 4 players for free!”

The team added that there will now be a fifth bounty pack added to the slew of DLC that is coming the next year. The post states, “In addition ot making Bounty Pack 1 free, 2K and Gearbox will be adding a new fifth Bounty Pack, meaning that players can look forward to even more mayhem on Kairos in the year ahead.”

The sudden news comes after Gearbox and 2K admitted that Borderlands 4 underperformed in sales, and after the community complained that the drop rates for dedicated drops are abysmal. There are those who believe that this is a way to appease the community after a poor launch, lack of service, and a lackluster endgame. Gearbox and 2K also announced that the first Invincible Boss, Bloomreaper, will be added to the game in mid-December.
