‘God of War’ Live Action Series Reveals First Look at Kratos and Atreus

God of War fans just got their very first look at the Amazon Prime live-action God of War TV series, which is now in production in Vancouver, Canada.

The image in question was revealed via an X post and gives fans a glimpse of Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as his young son, Atreus. “Father and Son. Behold your first look at Kratos and Atreus in the God of War series now in production for Prime Video,” Amazon said. “Their journey to the highest peak begins.”

Amazon ordered two seasons of God of War, which has led fans to think that season one will be based on 2018’s God of War, while season 2 will primarily focus on the God of War Ragnarok storyline. Further plot details were uncovered via a show synopsis that reads “Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye.” It continues, “Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”

An Ungodly Appearance?

When the news dropped earlier this morning, fans were quick to question if the picture in question was even real. Many questioned if this promotional photo was AI-generated or just a shoddy cosplay from fans. Judgement (for now) should be cast at a later date, when we finally see Kratos and company in action. And more importantly, hear Kratos’ iconic grumbly voice.

God of War is a franchise that is rooted in violence, industry-leading storytelling, and over-the-top action. If Prime Video can nail those aspects of the game and show fans that this father-son duo is one to follow to the bitter end, Amazon will no doubt have another hit video game adaptation on its hands for years to come.
