Video game live action TV adaptations are all the rage in the entertainment business nowadays, and we got word in December 2022 a God Of War show was ordered for Amazon Prime. After a recent report that things were not all well in Kratos’ new story, Deadline is reporting that Ronald D. Moore has been hired as the show’s new writer, executive producer, and showrunner. It also looks like the God Of War show will be the first major project under his new multi-year deal with Sony TV. His track record includes two long-running hit shows like Outlander on Starz and For All Mankind on Apple TV+.
Originally, Rafe Judkins was slated as showrunner, along with Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus who acted as the series executive producers, but a few weeks ago, Deadline reported that Judkins, Ostby, and Fergus would all be departing the show. The reasoning behind this departure can be accredited to despite multiple scripts of the show being done, Sony and Amazon wanted to take the show in “a new creative direction.” It’s safe to say upon hearing this news fans of the franchise assumed this show would remain dead in the water
God Of War has come a very long way since its initial launch on the PlayStation 2 back in 2005 and seen multiple games across four PlayStation consoles. With a gripping multi-layered story that centers around the ex-spartan hellbent on revenge, but more recently, redemption. There are a lot of good stories to be told across Krato’s origins facing various pantheons of gods and his recent ventures with his son Atreus. Now it falls on Amazon and PlayStation to assemble its cast and officially begin production or, should we say, go to war.
