Rockstar Games has delayed Grand Theft Auto VI once again, with the highly anticipated game now set to release on November 19, 2026. The nearly six-month delay has been explained as more time for the development team to give GTA 6 “the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”

Hi everyone,

Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.

We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and… pic.twitter.com/yLX9KIiDzX

GTA 6 Delayed Six Months for “Polish”

While the social media post above wants players to think that GTA 6 has been delayed merely for a half a year’s worth of polish, it is worth noting the coming legal battle ahead for Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive.

Just last week, Rockstar was accused of union-busting after firing dozens of workers who were in a private Discord chat talking with union members to get the ball rolling on a unionization for the developer. Rockstar is saying the workers were fired for “distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum.” Needless to say, we would be shocked if there were not a lawsuit coming in the future for the incident. Today, those fired employees reportedly protested outside of Take-Two’s London office, as organized by the IWGB union.

That isn’t to say that we think the union-busting situation is purely why Grand Theft Auto VI was delayed, but it definitely could have played a role, and maybe even extended the length a bit. With GTA 6 set to be one of, if not the largest, video game launches ever, we suspect that Take-Two did not want the game to be associated with the current situation and a presumed future legal battle.

For Rockstar to look at their game today, a little more than six months from release, and say we need a full year to finish this up could also hint that there have been a myriad of bugs and other various issues that require a lot of testing and fixing.
