Have you happened across the Strange Ox yet in Baldur’s Gate 3? There are plenty of weird creatures and foes that you will come across in the game but none stick out as much as the literally named ‘strange’ animal. This creature resides in Druid Grove and might be a bit more than meets the eye.
Make your way north to Emerald Grove which is just past the crash and where you can recruit Gale. After reaching this area, you will have a large group of Goblins to deal with. Once that is taken care of, head into the grove and you will find a group of Ox that are all being watched by an NPC. It is here that the Strange Ox can be found. What is the Strange Ox in Baldur’s Gate 3?
What is the Strange Ox in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The Strange Ox is an enigma in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you interact with it, you can use an Arcana check to determine why the creature makes you uneasy. Alas, all that comes of this is the narrator stating that the creature “isn’t what it appears to be.” More information, however, can be found if you have the right race, class, or spell. Specifically, you need the Speak with Animal spell.
If you talk to the Strange Ox while under the effect of the Speak with Animal spell, it will be surprised that you are addressing it. If you can talk to animals, you will get the following options when speaking to the Strange Ox:
- [Arcana] There’s something strange about this ox. What is it?
- Haven’t you ever met anyone who could speak to oxen?
- Did you come from Elurel with the others?
The ox will reply to any of these prompts will a lack of any real information. If you study the ox again with a successful Arcana check, you will also get the choice to complete a persuasion check. At this point, if you are successful at persuading the ox, it will tell you that it is off to Baldur’s Gate “with or without the rest of these poor sods.”
That is all the information that you can get from the Strange Ox currently. He may appear later in the game to offer more information but, for now, it remains just as strange as it did when you walked up.
