Final Fantasy 16 is a game filled with action. Throughout the game, you will play as Clive Rosfield, in search of his brother’s killer. During this quest for revenge, you will meet countless NPCs, each with an interesting personality and backstory.
It has been known for a while that Final Fantasy XVI is a single-player experience. You won’t be able to play online with friends in any way. Of course, this doesn’t mean there aren’t multiple playable characters. Here are all the playable characters in Final Fantasy 16.
How many playable characters are in FF16?
Clive Rosfield is the only true playable character in Final Fantasy 16. Throughout the entire game, you will play as Clive as he searches for the man who killed his brother. Clive will occasionally be accompanied by companions that you will not get to control. There is, however, a small section where you get to play as Joshua — Clive’s younger brother.
During the prologue, you will play as Joshua for about 10 minutes before switching back to playing as Clive. There are also multiple times when you will play as Ifrit — Clive’s Eikon. Though you could consider this still playing as Clive.
The only other character you have somewhat control over in the game is Torgal. Torgal is Clive’s wolf companion that will accompany him through most of the game. You will have a small command menu that can control Torgal’s actions but you will never get to play as the companion. Instead, you will simply relay commands like Sic, Ravage, and Heal. For the most part, Torgal will move and act on his own.
Unfortunately, it looks like Clive will be the only true playable character throughout the game besides a few select instances that hardly qualify as playing as another character. This is the first time Square Enix has made a Final Fantasy game with only one playable character aside from the base version of Final Fantasy 15.
