One of the staples of Bethesda games is their immersive worlds — and how long it takes to explore them. With Starfield, Bethesda is releasing one of its most ambitious projects in decades. Dozens of new game features. Thousands of planets. So, how long will Starfield take players to beat?
How many hours to finish the main quest?
From player reports, Starfield’s main quest line takes roughly 20-30 hours. The exact length depends entirely on how many side quests you pick up and complete. Also, wandering will definitely rack up your time in-game. However, if you do the main quest and nothing else, you should still expect 20 hours of gameplay. This is a pretty typical main story length for Bethesda games.
This means that if you aren’t a mass explorer, you’ll be able to experience all Starfield is about in a fairly short amount of time. It’s only the 100%-ers who have a long journey ahead of them.
How long does it take to 100% Starfield?
If you want to explore every inch of Starfield, it should take much, much longer than 20-30 hours.
According to Bethesda veteran Pete Hines, he has played 160 hours of Starfield and isn’t close to finishing. If that report is accurate, it might be the largest Bethesda game yet. Considering Skyrim took roughly a record 231 hours to 100%, Starfield could take anywhere from 200-300 hours. And that doesn’t even include the mysterious New Game Plus feature included in Starfield. It’s possible players could spend over 500 hours between their original playthrough and their New Game Plus. So if you’re in for a lot of game, you’ll be thrilled. For players who like to speed-run their way to 100%, though, you’re going to have quite a bit of content to digest.
Considering Bethesda fans are known for their wandering and whacky hijinks, though, this should give players a lot of fun things to do.
