The Butcher is a Diablo series staple that you can expect to appear in just about any game in the series. This large demonic presence is not the person you would want handling your meat at the local deli, but we love seeing him return when he does. His iconic hook is a weapon you do not want to be on the other side of. In Diablo IV, he remains a threat, but not necessarily the same end-chapter boss we are used to. Here is how to find and defeat The Butcher in Diablo IV.
Where to find The Butcher in Diablo IV
The Butcher can be found in any dungeon in Diablo IV. Unfortunately, he is a rare spawn, so you could go your entire playtime without seeing him. There is no way to make him come out; he will just randomly appear. It is completely dependent on RNG, as you can be at any level between 10 and 100 to encounter the beast. When that happens, be ready for a fight. If The Butcher defeats you, he will disappear, and you will have to get lucky enough to find him again for a rematch.
How to defeat The Butcher in Diablo IV
Whenever The Butcher appears in Diablo IV, he will be scaled to your level, so there really isn’t a way to overpower him. The difference between winning and losing will come down to the quality of your gear and counteracting his attacks. These are the moves to look out for:
- His main attack is swinging at you with a cleaver or sickle.
- He will also toss a hook at you from a distance, pulling you in and stunning you. This leaves you susceptible to a follow-up attack.
- If you are close enough, he can headbutt you and stun you again.
- If he charges into you, you will again be stunned on top of the damage you take from him.
- When The Butcher roars, you will be slowed.
When The Butcher appears, we recommend first focusing on getting rid of any smaller enemies fighting alongside him. Use area-of-effect attacks to get as many as possible. While this is going on, do your best to avoid his hook and charge attacks. Once they are all gone, turn your attention to bursting him down. When he finally falls, you will have a pretty high chance of receiving higher-tier loot and maybe even a one-handed axe called The Butcher’s Cleaver.
