Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a long time coming. Now that it is here, numerous players will invest hundreds of hours into their adventure. However, this title is coming to multiple platforms with online play. If you have friends playing the game on different platforms, getting everyone synced up in a session can be hard. Luckily, playing with your friends is easier than ever in the gaming industry. Does Baldur’s Gate 3 have crossplay and cross-progression functionality?

Is Baldur’s Gate 3 crossplay?

No, Baldur’s Gate 3 does not have crossplay. At least as of launch, if you want to play with friends, they must be on the same platform as you. Of course, there is an opportunity for this to change in the future, maybe even when the game comes out on Xbox, but there are no announcements of that changing right now. At least at first here, PS5 and PC players are stuck playing with players on those systems.

Does Baldur’s Gate 3 have cross-progression?

While there is no crossplay, you don’t have to lose your save to swap platforms and play with a friend. You can carry over your save between platforms if you own Baldur’s Gate 3 on multiple platforms. You can transfer your save between PC and PS5 willingly. Whenever the game comes to Xbox, we expect this also to be available there.

While it is disappointing to some that Baldur’s Gate 3 is missing crossplay at launch, at least the developers were able to work in cross-progression. These cross-platform features are highly popular in games these days, so it is good to see them. Hopefully, the crossplay situation can be resolved sooner rather than later so people can have their adventures together without owning multiple platforms.
