The Activision Blizzard acquisition by Microsoft looks to finally be wrapping up. After an interesting FTC court case, and over a year and a half of speculation, the deal should go through within a few months. Unless you have been living under a rock, you have heard someone give their thoughts on the status of Call of Duty under the Xbox umbrella. Is Call of Duty coming to Game Pass?
Will Call of Duty come to Xbox Game Pass?
As of this writing, there is no confirmation of if or when Call of Duty will be included in Xbox Game Pass. Speaking speculatively, we would be very surprised if the franchise didn’t come to the subscription service following the acquisition being completed.
For starters, Microsoft loves Game Pass and wants to constantly push people to subscribe. There are not many other franchises that could push people to do that than Call of Duty. Whenever the deal is announced to be done, we expect this announcement to be not too far behind. Maybe even before it is finished.
What Call of Duty games will be on Game Pass?
Typically, when games are added to Xbox Game Pass, they come in waves. If we look at what happened with Bethesda, there was a large drop of those games at one time. Rather than seeing a lot of various Activision franchises be added, we expect a lot of Call of Duty games to be added at first. Recently, matchmaking was addressed in a bunch of Xbox 360 titles for the series. We could easily see all of those added first. These include:
- Black Ops
- Black Ops II
- Modern Warfare
- Modern Warfare 2
- Modern Warfare 3
- World at War
Those are the Xbox 360 games we expect to be added. We also anticipate the following to be added near the beginning:
- Advanced Warfare
- Black Ops III
- Black Ops 4
- Infinite Warfare
- Modern Warfare Remastered
- Modern Warfare 2 Remastered
After those, we speculate you can expect the new Modern Warfare games, Vanguard, and Black Ops Cold War to be added. There is always a chance those games are included along with the listed Call of Duty games above, but we wouldn’t be surprised if not all games come to Game Pass right away. As for the new Modern Warfare 3 and future games, Xbox has been steadfast about releasing big games on day one so far, but who knows if they will change that approach after the acquisition.
