There are some video games that seem too big to fail. Series like Pokémon, Super Mario, and Call of Duty have been staples for so long that you expect them always to be there. Roblox is in that discussion as well. However, a little rumor has been floating around that the giant platform may be coming to an end. Here is the answer to if Roblox is shutting down.
Will Roblox shut down soon?
As of this writing, there are no plans for Roblox to shut down at any point in the future. We would be shocked if it were to happen. According to a news release about its financial results, the first quarter of 2023 saw the platform bring in $655.3 million, up 22% from last year. Just looking at that fact alone, there is no way a service continuing to grow and be successful like that would be turned off.
Outside of the pure revenue statistics, Roblox is still performing exceedingly well. In the first quarter of 2023, 14.5 billion hours of playtime were spent on its games. While the typical “hardcore” gamer may never consider Roblox a core experience, there is such a massive community under the Roblox umbrella that it is considered a juggernaut in the gaming space.
Roblox is not shutting down, and you shouldn’t expect it to any time soon. While not many adults will put their time into the platform, millions of children spend hours on it daily. They get their parents and relatives to spend money on Roblox, buying them gift cards and content for the various games on the platform. That is such a great money-maker for the company. There is no conceivable way it will end that unless something catastrophic happens.
