Skull and Bones is Ubisoft’s version of a pirate epic to compete with games like Sea of Thieves. As with any recently released title, there are those who want to know whether or not it is worth buying. Because of this, there are many asking “Is Skull and Bones worth it?”
The reason for the question is that many are hesitant about what the combat in Skull and Bones is like. They are also wondering how long the game will last. On top of that, Ubisoft has been known to have bad microtransactions. So is Skull and Bones worth it? Should you avoid this game, wait for a sale, or get it now?
Should you get Skull and Bones?
Skull and Bones is Ubisoft’s take on a pirate epic that allows you to take the wheel of a massive pirate ship, plunder settlements, and become a pirate kingpin. This title has a fair amount going for it. For instance, we found the following to be positives about Skull and Bones:
- Great ship customization
- Exciting naval combat
- Fun multiplayer and co-op
Each of these features is something that we found fun. The ship customization is quite extensive with the ability to equip all sorts of cannons, defensive measures, and furniture bonuses. You also have the ability to customize the look of your ship with everything from a new mast to a new wheel. Along with the customization, you have the naval combat which is exhilarating. We didn’t get tired of shooting ships and plundering settlements. Finally, the co-op and multiplayer are fun but there could be more options like battle modes and more PvP missions.

Now that we have mentioned the good, we also have some stuff that makes the game not as worthwhile. These are the features we found to be more lackluster in Skull and Bones:
- Repetitive missions
- Lack of melee or gun combat
- Can’t interact with other ships
Breaking these down, the repetitive gameplay is one of the biggest letdowns. Many of the contracts and missions feel the same. Most of these can be boiled down to fetch quests. Next, the lack of melee or gun combat means that the entire game is naval-based. This means that you are on your ship a lot and it can get a little tiresome. Finally, you can’t interact with other ships outside of shooting them with cannons. We would give anything to be able to storm an enemy vessel and fight with swords on the deck.
So if you are wondering whether you should buy Skull and Bones or wait. We suggest that you should wait for a sale. While there is a good amount of fun to be had, it isn’t enough to pay the full price for the title.
