One of the best things about gaming these days is games are so much more accessible than they used to be. Even when a game is signaled as an exclusive, there is a decent chance it will make its way to at least one other platform in the future. Even PlayStation exclusives have done this recently. At launch, Final Fantasy 16 is a PS5 exclusive, not available to be played anywhere else, but we know it is making a jump at some point. When will Final Fantasy 16 come to PC?
When is FF16 coming to PC?
Unfortunately, there is no current timetable for when Final Fantasy 16 will release on PC. Producer Naoki Yoshida has said that the team wants to make the PC port, but there are a few hold-ups. For starters, the game has a six-month exclusivity window agreement with Sony. Final Fantasy 16 is only legally available to be on PlayStation 5 during this time. With the game releasing on June 22, 2023, you might think this signals an expected release in late 2023 or early 2024. Unfortunately, Yoshida has shut down those hopes.
Earlier in the year, Eurogamer reported that Yoshida said that Square Enix had been so focused on making Final Fantasy 16 for PS5 that there has been no work done porting it to PC yet. All of their resources were focused on the initial release. To bring the game to PC, it will take longer than six months to make the game fully playable in a good state. The series producer reiterated that he wants to bring it to PC, but there is no good way to estimate when it will come.
Considering the above, we would caution anyone from expecting a PC announcement for Final Fantasy 16 anytime in 2023. At the earliest, we would say there might be an update for that during the summer of 2024. Comparing this situation to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, that game came to PC two years after its initial release, so you may be waiting even longer.
