These days, you don’t really think of RoboCop too much. The character made his debut in the late 80s, and outside of a guest appearance in Mortal Kombat 11, it’s been a while since he was in a video game. As we approach 40 years since the original movie, though, he has a whole new game in RoboCop: Rogue City. While kids might not have any clue who this is, there are plenty of adults who will want to jump into this game. What about people on older hardware? Will RoboCop: Rogue City be on PS4/Xbox One?
Is RoboCop: Rogue City going to be released on last-gen hardware?
Unfortunately for anyone who has not made the upgrade to a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X yet, RoboCop: Rogue City will not be on PS4/Xbox One. The game was developed with more powerful hardware in mind, so only people who have upgraded to current tech or have a PC strong enough for it can play the game.
It’s not entirely surprising that RoboCop: Rogue City didn’t launch on last-gen hardware. At this point, it has been a decade since the PS4 and Xbox One were released. That is a very long time for software and hardware technology. The way that video games continue to grow and incorporate more intensive features and graphics means those consoles simply couldn’t handle running the game without being severely compromised. It’s the same reason the Nintendo Switch gets games that look noticeably worse on that console. You’re going to see a lot more games start to skip the PS4 and Xbox One now that it’s been three years since the PS5/Xbox Series X launch.
With RoboCop: Rogue City not being in Xbox Game Pass, you also cannot stream the game on your Xbox One. If it ever ends up coming to the subscription service, you could play it that way, but that’s a matter of using up your data caps on your internet bill if it ever even comes to the service at all. We recommend saving your money for a jump to the current generation or investing in a PC instead.
