Helldivers 2 is a great co-op game that sticks to a four-player squad size. But what if it didn’t? Think about the chaos if you could play with up to seven over players to make it an eight-man squad. This is something that players have been asking about for a while and Helldivers 2 CCO Pilestedt has finally given everyone an answer just in time for the holidays. Thankfully, when asked about team size, Helldivers 2 CCO Pilestedt stated that it is “not impossible.”
Arrowhead has been doing a lot for the end of the year. After a massive reveal at the Game Awards which added the Illuminate to Helldivers 2, the team did its first collab with the Killzone franchise. Recently, players also completed an MO that gave them access to the FRV as a stratagem. Now you and your team can ride around any battlefield in style.
Helldivers 2 CCO talk about team size increases
Use MattWallaceTech recently posted on X asking Pilestedt about team size increases in Helldivers 2. He stated, “Is there any way to increase team sizes from 4 to 8 players but only on super Helldive difficulty?” In response to this, Pilestedt said, “I’ve answered this a couple of times, but no. The engine network architecture, UI, performance, and difficulty can’t cope. We need to do significant investment for 8p coop to work.”

Shortly after this response, Pilestedt said, “As a catch-all reply: It’s not impossible, and it’s something we talk about often at the studio. Future will tell what happens.” While this is not a guarantee that we will be seeing eight-player co-op in the future, it does show that the team is at least talking about it and trying to get things figured out. Once upon a time, many thought that vehicles and melee weapons would not be coming to Helldivers 2 but they are both in the game now.
