The Terminid appear to be going through a major change in Helldivers 2, and it is thanks to a mysterious entity called the Gloom. Little is known about the Gloom but it seems to connect to the Illuminate as well as a means of stopping them from moving the Meridian Singularity. What is going on in the universe and what have the Helldivers gotten themselves into?
A previous leak showcased what happens when the Terminid make it to Super Earth – showing off spore-covered urban environments. On top of this, the Terminid appear to be getting stronger and going through some sort of evolution and it is thanks to the Gloom.
Helldivers 2 leak showcases Gloom objectives
Known leaker IronS1ghts revealed new objectives that we can expect to complete that all involve the Gloom. Along with the new objectives, IronS1ghts stated, “There are also gloom-variants of current missions that feature “spore burst” gloom bugs.” The following objectives are supposedly coming to the game:
- Collect Gloom-Infused Oil
- During this mission, you will be tasked with collecting “oil that has been exposed to the Gloom.” This oil will be used to collect information on “how the Gloom has altered the planet beneath the surface.”
- Collect Gloom Spore Readings
- This mission tasks players with finding probes “sent into the Gloom.” You are to extract the research data and “transmit it past the atmospheric Gloom to the Super Destroyer.”
- Gloom Lidar Towers
- You are tasked with utilizing the LiDAR towers to “measure the density and composition of Gloom Spores.” Afterward, you are tasked with uploading the data from a communication relay.
Going a step further, IronS1ghts also revealed a planet that currently has a “Gloom Research Expedition” header. The description of this planet reads, “The Gloom may hold the key to stopping the Illuminate from moving the Meridian Singularity. A scientific expedition is being conducted to this planet, at extreme cost and risk. The Hellidvers must secure every scrap of useful data on the Gloom.”
We know that the spacetime fluctuations are getting worse, and someone recently pointed out that they match the sound coming from the singularity. It appears as though we will be tasked with collecting part of the Gloom and using it to seal off the Meridian Singularity before the Illuminate have time to move it.
