Team Cherry has randomly dropped a short teaser announcing DLC for Hollow Knight: Silksong called Sea of Sorrow. No date has been given, but the video says that the new content will be out sometime in 2026, and it will be free for all players.

With the timing of the announcement, it definitely feels like this DLC has probably been in the works for a while, considering that Silksong released just a couple of months ago. That said, Team Cherry is very dedicated to releasing a game when they deem it fully done, so this could be something that could be dropped at the end of next year, or even potentially delayed into 2027 with how they operate.

It’s a bit odd that they didn’t make this announcement at the Game Awards just a few days ago, where they were nominated for multiple awards and even won one, but with how they essentially shadow-dropped the game, maybe that’s just how they like to work now.

What Will Be in Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow?

A blog post on the Team Cherry site goes a little further into the announcement, saying that there will be new areas, bosses, tools, and more. They also say more will be revealed “shortly” before it releases, so yeah, it may be another two-week warning thing before it releases. As for when that will happen, who knows? Silksong itself was supposed to be a DLC for the original Hollow Knight before so much was added to it that it became its own game and was released years later.

That wasn’t all, though, as it was also announced that the original Hollow Knight game is getting a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 edition, which will be free for all owners of the original game. Some cool mini-figurines of many characters in Silksong are also available for pre-order.
