When you think of horses in The Legend of Zelda series, you will probably jump to Epona right away. She has been Link’s trusty stead in multiple adventures. That said, you will have access to a bunch of horses in Tears of the Kingdom, as this isn’t a one-horse game by any means. Here is how to tame a horse in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
How to ride a horse in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
If you have played Breath of the Wild, you already know how to tame a horse in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The process is not too difficult if you have forgotten or skipped that game.
As you explore Hyrule, you will eventually come across horses just minding their own business. They will get scared and run away if you run up to them. Instead, you will want to sneak up on them. Press in the left stick to crouch and slowly make your way to a horse of your choosing outside of its eye line. When able, press A to jump on its back, and it will begin trying to buck you off. As this is happening, you will need to keep pressing R to soothe it until it settles down.

When the horse has calmed down, it is tamed, and you can jump on it whenever you like. Remember that the soothing process takes stamina to keep you on the horse as it bucks. If you don’t have enough, you might not have a chance to tame that particular horse. After you have gotten good at this, you can also try new methods of getting on the horse’s back by gliding above and dropping down onto it.
After the horse is tamed, you can whistle to have it run to you and register it at horse stables. At those stables, you can name it and customize it a little bit.
