It’s Tail Time (Soon)! Gex Trilogy Releases this Summer

The Gex Trilogy has gotten a new gameplay trailer and a release window, slated to come out sometime this summer, though we still don’t have a price. It will be on Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. This will be the first time the gecko is playable since his third and final game released back in 1999. Included in the trilogy are Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. You can watch the new trailer below.

What’s coming in the Gex Trilogy this summer?

We wrote about the Gex Trilogy announcement last year, which initially didn’t give us a lot of information other than it was coming. Now, we have some ideas of features for the collection. First of all, the games look largely like they did back in the 90s, so this isn’t necessarily a massive remaster project, rather just making it so the games can run on current platforms. The second and third games have been adjusted to play in full widescreen, but since the first game is a 2D platformer, it remains in its original resolution.

There are some nice features being thrown into the mix as well. Save states and rewind are both being added, so you don’t have to lose a ton of progress when you take one step too far. A music player filled with songs from the series and media viewer for various promos and artwork from back in the day are included as well.

Because Gex relies a lot on referencing movies and television shows from his era, it’s not likely that many kids today will have much interest in playing these games. That being said, there’s a lot of people who grew up in the 90s who will be looking forward to the Gex Trilogy this summer.
