The next entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise is set to release in 2027, with production slated to begin later this year. Following the reveal of Amy Rose within the post-credit scene for the third movie, fans were left to speculate who would take up the titular role. Sonic fans can let that speculation go because we finally have our answer.
Announced via the Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that Kristen Bell is set to take up the role of Amy Rose. Sonic’s voice actor Ben Schwartz was also quick to take to his X page to reveal the news as well. The caption reads “WE HAVE OUR AMY ROSE!!! And I could not be more excited!!! Please welcome the incredible Kristen Bell to the Sonic Movie family!!!”
Bell is most well-known for her other voice acting roles, such as Anna from Disney’s Frozen movies. She now joins the growing list of iconic actors who are featured within the Sonic movie franchise, such as Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Idris Elba as Knuckles, and Keanu Reeves as Shadow. And for now, it isn’t outright confirmed that Jim Carrey will be returning as Dr. Robotnik, but he has stated he is “open to the idea.”
Amy Rose first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog CD in 1993 and was portrayed as the ‘damsel in distress’. Since then, she has become a much more fleshed-out character who has a profound love for Sonic. Her biggest ventures include her stories in Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes, where she was the captain of Team Rose alongside Big the Cat and Cream the Rabbit.
For now, we must wait and see where the plot goes in Sonic 4, but this is a cinematic universe that is growing at a rapid rate, with the stakes rising with each entry. But for some speculation, Sonic CD deals with time travel and is our first introduction to both Metal Sonic and Amy. Given how faithful each movie has been to prior games, we could be led to believe that some plot aspects will be taken from it as well.
