Nintendo had a Direct that focused on Mario Kart World. While there were a lot of racers, tracks, items, and more shown, the main focus wasn’t on Nintendo’s new game. Instead, the focus was still on the large price tag stuck to the game. Attention has been on the console’s price tag since it was revealed earlier this month, and consumers are making it known that they have not forgotten about it. During the Mario Kart World Direct, Nintendo was once again bombarded by angry consumers demanding they the console giant “drop the price.”
Mario Kart World Direct viewers demand a price drop
Price has been the main focus of consumers since the Switch 2 was revealed, along with the first run of games coming to the console. The Nintendo of America president also broke down the reasoning for the price. In case you haven’t seen, the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 is currently set at $450. If you purchase the bundle, it will cost you $500, and it will come with Mario Kart World.
Games for the Nintendo Switch 2 have also received a price jump. Mario Kart World, for instance, will cost $80 for the digital version and $90 for the physical edition. Other titles, such as Donkey Kong Bananza, will be $70 at launch. This is a jump from the Nintendo Switch game prices, which have been consistently set to $60 with a few exceptions, such as Tears of the Kingdom.

During the Mario Kart World Direct that took place on April 17, 2025, consumers have continued to push back on Nintendo’s pricing. Many spammed the chat saying, “Drop the price.” There were a few exceptions, with one user saying, “Add a button to Switch 2 that just gives $100 to Nintendo. That’s what the people want.” Others were telling the group to “boycott Nintendo.”
If you, like many others, are against the current price, keep in mind that there is a chance that it could increase further. Thanks to tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, pre-orders for the Switch 2 have been pushed back, and there is talk of a price increase.
