A couple of lead designers from Bethesda recently took part in a Q&A about Starfield and answered 16 questions for those eagerly awaiting the RPG’s release. The Q&A occurred in a Discord server, so it would be easy to miss all this info. Luckily, ResetEra user Vixolus has gathered up all the questions and their corresponding answers for you to see. We will just briefly overview the important information you should know.

Can you own housing properties in Starfield’s cities?

Yes, you can buy a house in the main cities for currency, and sometimes you will be rewarded a property for completing certain quests and tasks.

If you select the Kid Stuff trait (parents are alive and get 10% of your income), will the parents look like our character in Starfield?

Your parents will be made off a match from your custom face. They also note that the actors went really hard into performing the parents’ role, and there are benefits to having them.

How does the smuggling cargo system work in Starfield?

Certain items are considered illegal in most areas. When you come across a security ship, you can hide them in special ship modules. The game has a fixed economy for selling these items, but certain skills can affect the prices.

Is there a jail system for committing crimes in Starfield?

Yes, similar to Skyrim, when caught after doing a crime, you can be fined, resist arrest, or be sent to jail.

Does time pass in Starfield when you are not playing?

No, time will only move forward when your save is active.

Can you have a pacifist playthrough in Starfield?

While there are dialogue and non-lethal weapon options to get through some encounters, you will not really be able to have a full no-kill playthrough.

How many companions are in Starfield?

Over 20 named companions can carry items for you and follow you around. Four specific companions are from Constellation and have the most backstory and interactions available.

Can you level up companion skills in Starfield?

While some companion skills will boost your own skills, they cannot be leveled up. They are assigned to that specific character at a certain rank. They are meant to fill out that character more.

Those are the biggest things we learned from the Starfield Q&A. The game is set to release soon, so you will be able to learn a galaxy’s worth of information soon.
