According to Windows Central’s Jez Corden, a Blizzard franchise is “getting some kind of Netflix treatment.” Speaking about the recent successes of Minecraft and Fallout in movie and television and how adaptations can positively affect video games on the Xbox Two podcast alongside Rand al Thor 19, Corden refused to give the specific game getting the Blizzard Netflix adaptation, but that won’t stop us from speculating. You can hear the conversation below.
What Blizzard Netflix adaptation is coming?
As mentioned above, Corden did not go deep into this rumor at all. This sounds like something he just heard from someone, so there is a chance whatever the new Blizzard Netflix adaptation is, it is in the very early going. He mentioned that he thinks the best time to announce this project would be at BlizzCon, which will not be happening until September 2026.
Being the Overwatch fan that I am, of course I am hoping that is what is getting an adaptation. That world and characters are perfectly suited for a series, similar to the League of Legends show Arcane. Of course, many people would be very excited for Diablo, Starcraft, or Warcraft shows as well. We just think Overwatch is in a better spot for it.
If a new Blizzard show or movie is actually coming from Netflix, it would seem that Microsoft acquiring Activision and outing former CEO Bobby Kotick has repaired the relationship with the media company. Last year, Jason Schreier reported that there was an Overwatch show in the works at Netflix, but it, as well as Starcraft and Diablo shows, were canceled following a poaching lawsuit filed by Activision.
We really hope an Overwatch adaptation is coming from Blizzard and Netflix, but we’ve already seen things like this fall through in the past. Hopefully, this rumor is real and actually sees a full release and we can see what comes out at the end.
