It should come as no surprise to learn that there are some secrets hidden in the Borderlands 4 reveal trailer. After all, Gearbox did the same thing when it revealed Borderlands 3. They showed off new characters including the villains Tyreen and Troy. So far, fans have discovered quite a few secrets hidden in the trailer, but not all of them have been found according to Gearbox executive Randy Pitchford. So what secrets have fans found in the Borderlands 4 reveal trailer and what information does it tell us about the future of the series?
All Borderlands 4 trailer secrets found so far
First of all, many have pointed out that after you see the Firehawk symbol in the sky, you can make out a line showing what many believe to be Lilith striking Elpis (the moon of Pandora). This happens right before the trailer cuts to Elpis tearing through the fabric of the universe. Many have taken this to show that what Lilith did ended up opening the route to the Eridian homeworld.

Near the end of the trailer, another fan believes they have found the release date for Borderlands 4. We all know the game is coming in 2025 but one fan pointed out that they noticed a “Mon 15” right before the release year was shown. Throughout 2025, there is only one Monday the 15th which happens to be in September. This would make sense considering both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3 were released in September. The original game and the Pre-Sequel were released in October.

Next up is some Eridian writing that nobody is 100% sure on the translation. The main consensus is that the words in the first image are spelling out “He is watching,” and the words in the second image say, “Break Free.” The letters do match up for the second image so it could be correct. Many have pointed out that this could be referring to Handsome Jack.

For the final secret, many believe they have discovered Handsome Jack in the trailer. This would be huge considering the villain is a fan-favorite and many have been asking for him to return since his defeat in Borderlands 2. While Troy and Tyreen were okay, nothing has topped the villainous nature of Handsome Jack.

The image of the face is reminiscent of Handsome Jack but what seals it is the vault symbol placed on top of the face. This is in the same positioning as the Vault Symbol etched on Handsome Jack’s face and the reason why is wears the mask. The main issue with this image is that the vault symbol on his face is in the opposite direction. This could simply be a mirrored image but it could also mean that we are getting a different version of Jack or perhaps a different villain altogether.
