Believe it or not there used to be an era in gaming where you pop in a game and you’re just able to play it. No downloads, no day one patches, no buggy launches. Well Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 is out now and the good news here is fans are really digging it. With positive reviews across the board and high praises for its Zombies mode being sung there really wasn’t anything that could dampen the mood on this launch. That was right up until fans realized the game’s single player campaign requires an always-on internet connection.
This all started after the June 9th Call Of Duty direct where a support page for Black Ops 6 went live. In this FAQ page a question was asked about needing an internet connection to play the game and this is what the page stated.
“To deliver the highest-quality visuals while also reducing the game’s overall storage space on your hard drive, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will use texture streaming across all game modes. This means you’ll need a continuous internet connection to play any game mode, including Campaign. If you’re on a console, Campaign can be played without a premium subscription service such as Game Pass Core or PlayStation Plus.”
Now to be fair this has been the norm for Call Of Duty on the PC side of things over the past few releases. But Black Ops 6 marks the first time these online requirements are needed for console owners. Tack this onto an already massive install size for the game itself, your hard drives will no doubt be put to the test when you choose to install this game. Let’s not forget all internet speeds are not the same so there could be a possibility of lag due to a loss of internet connection as well.
