We are sure everyone here remembers the absolute disaster that was Concord. Released back in the latter half of August, it only took Sony 11 days to pull the title due to low player counts. Concord being shut down was upsetting to a few but many agreed that it was a game that shouldn’t have been made in the first place. Now that it has been a few months, Concord is trending again – not because players want to bring it back, but rather because they want to double down on how bad of a game it was compared to the latest hero shooter Marvel Rivals.
Sony put a lot of faith in Firewalk Studios and Concord making a big splash in the hero shooter genre. Unfortunately for them, the game never took off and the player count didn’t even pass 700 on Steam. The low player count and lack of interest in the title ultimately led to Sony pulling Concord from Steam and the PS Store. It also led to the closure of Firewalk Studios.
Players bag on Concord even more with the release of Marvel Rivals
Concord is again making an appearance across social media apps such as X and Reddit with many comparing the game to the new kid on the block, Marvel Rivals. The latest hero shooter has taken the gaming world by storm, quickly amassing a large player count. Currently, Marvel Rivals sits at number four on the Steam most played chart with a peak player count today of around 480,000.
Fans of the game have taken no time to compare the latest shooter title to the failed Concord. Many have posted the numbers comparison of the two titles on X and Reddit with most players referring to Marvel Rivals’ character design as one of the biggest differences. There were a large number of players who said that the character designs in Concord were uninteresting. We believe one of the biggest differences is that Concord tried to start a new IP while Marvel Rivals is working off of a well-established brand with well-known characters.
There were many who tried to justify the failure of Concord by saying it was because of a drop in the popularity of hero shooters. Others justified it by saying that the market was oversaturated but Marvel Rivals shows that if you listen to what players want and have a strong enough title, you can capture enough attention. It also didn’t help that Concord wasn’t free to play.
