It is no surprise that Concord seems to be struggling at the moment. Since the game was shown off, players have felt iffy about the upcoming hero-shooter that some have said looks like a rejected version of the Guardians of the Galaxy. With that being said, the two beta tests are meant to help draw players in but it doesn’t seem to be working too well. The closed beta went live on the weekend of July 12 and the open beta is currently going on until July 21. Unfortunately, Concord seems dead on arrival. At least, that is what the beta numbers would have you believe.
YouTuber Luke Stephens posted a video of the Concord beta on his YouTube channel. This video talks about the numbers for the Concord beta and they showcase a rather grim picture. As of writing this, the highest player count the open beta has seen is 2,363 and that was within the first 24 hours. Within the last 24 hours, the highest player count was 1,608. This information comes from the SteamCharts website.
Luke Stephens’ video is not the only post from someone concerned about the open beta numbers. Other players have posted on Reddit talking about how it has been difficult to find a match thanks to there being so few people online. Some have even stated that it has been taking upwards of five minutes or more to get into a game. Since this is a paid game that will cost the player base $40 at launch, it is concerning that so many players are now against purchasing the title. A lot of users have even said that Concord is dead on arrival and should stick to a free-to-play format instead.
If Concord decides to go free-to-play, it may bring in many who are sceptical of purchasing a title that is very similar to games like Overwatch or the upcoming Marvel Rivals. Overall reception from the previous beta was not great. After playing it ourselves, we found the game to be lacking. Many players also stated that the game was missing a “wow factor” to help it stand out. All in all, things are not looking great for the upcoming game from Firewalk Studios.
