The day has finally come when Gameloft has answered the question asked by us for over a year: “Will Disney Dreamlight Valley be free-to-play?” To everyone’s surprise, the answer is a resounding no. Gameloft has officially stated that Disney Dreamlight Valley will not go free-to-play and will instead remain a paid game for the foreseeable future.
Of course, this is upsetting for those who were under the impression that the game would be free after leaving early access. Many fans, however, see this as a positive announcement since free-to-play games are typically bogged down by tons of microtransactions and paywalls.
Gameloft shared the news earlier today on the official Disney Dreamlight Valley X (formerly Twitter) page. The announcement contains a slideshow with some other important announcements. For starters, there is an update about early access. Disney Dreamlight Valley will officially leave early access on December 5, 2023. That is not long after the Cozy Edition of the game is set to release.
Those who have been enjoying DDV in early access will get to keep their copy of the game when the transition to full release happens. If you have the game already, you will also get to keep all of your saved data and Moonstones.
As stated previously, Disney Dreamlight Valley will remain a paid game. The price for the game was not officially unveiled but we imagine it will stay the same price that it currently is and there won’t be any cost changes. The decision to not go free-to-play was made so Gameloft would “be able to continue delivering a premium game experience for all players.” Many consider this when considering all the free character updates that have been added.
Finally, Gameloft will have a streamed showcase on November 1, 2023, at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. This live stream will reveal the first paid expansion for Disney Dreamlight Valley titled A Rift in Time. There will also be important updates given about the state of multiplayer as well as future updates. See you there!
