There is no denying that the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring takes the game’s base difficulty and ramps it up to 11. If you aren’t prepared to go into this DLC, you will easily get your Elden Lord booty handed to you by its many mobs and difficult bosses. With that being said, Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco and the game’s creator have not been the kindest to those struggling with the DLC. Instead, both have either offered somewhat slighted suggestions or reasoning as to why players shouldn’t expect the game to be easy.
This isn’t the first time FromSoftware has ramped up the difficulty of one of its games in the DLC. In fact, all of the Dark Souls franchise DLCs have been noticeably more difficult than the base games (we still have nightmares of Brume Tower from Dark Souls 2). For those struggling to get through the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, publisher Bandai Namco has just a small suggestion. On the company’s X page, it posted, “This is a suggestion to level up your Scadutree Blessing.”
The Scadutree Blessing is of course a way for your character to become stronger in the DLC which will help you dish out more damage. The only problem with this suggestion is that the blessing doesn’t affect your health which is what most players struggle with. Even some of the more basic enemies in the DLC can kill you with only a few hits. With that being said, it is time to really live out the definition of “git gud.”
Earlier, Miyazaki had an interview with The Guardian about the DLC where he said, “If we really wanted the whole world to play the game, we could just crank the difficulty down more and more.” After this, he said, “Turning down difficulty would strip the game of that joy – which, in my eyes, would break the game itself.” Unfortunately, players will not be getting any help when it comes to the DLC so start practicing.
