For the King II is getting a Closed Beta ahead of its release later this year. The turn-based rogue-like game sees you create your own custom character, choose a class, and explore the fantasy world of Fahrul. Alongside the beta announcement, the team at Curve Games and IronOak Games put together a behind-the-scenes video of how the game is being made.
For those who wish to enter the Closed Beta, all you have to do is sign up on through the For the King II’s Steam page. The server will open on May 10 at 10 a.m. PST. Only players who are selected will be able to enter the beta, so signing up does not guarantee access — though you could always attempt a persuasion check and get a critical success. We jest. Players who do gain access to the test will be able to leave feedback and comments on how the game performs.
The beta will include five playable adventures which can be used in the single player and multiplayer modes. Those heroes can be one of six available classes: Blacksmith, Scholar, Hunter, Stableboy, Herbalist, and Alchemist, though more will be added in the final release.
The video titled “Inside the Studio!” includes several developers discussing how the game came about. The series as a whole was inspired by Ultima VII: The Black Gate and tabletop RPGs.
It’s always good fun to get a sneak peek behind game development. It’s like watching a documentary about the making of a film. For the King II will release in 2023, but it does not have an official release date. The closed beta ends on May 16 10 a.m. PST.
