Magic: The Gathering will release a haunting set of cards into retail this autumn. Called Duskmourn: House of Horror, it was revealed at MagicCon: Amsterdam during a special preview panel. It will debut four new spooky Commander deck sets. These four will be:
- Miracle Worker (White-Blue-Black)
- Death Toll (Black-Green)
- Jump Scare! (Green-Blue)
- Endless Punishment (Black-Red)
These new Commander decks will feature a ready-to-play 100-card deck that has eight brand new cards and borderless Commander cards. It will also feature ten double-sided tokens, ten Scheme cards, a deck box, a Collector Booster Sample Pack, a Life wheel, and a Strategy insert.
These Magic: The Gathering Commander decks are currently available for pre-order at local game stores or online retailers such as Amazon. They will official be available on September 27, 2024. This places the new Duskmourn decks right before spooky season in October. If anyone is a fan of themed game nights, this is a great opportunity to jump on.
Magic promises that the full Commander decklists will be available at a later date so you can get more details on what to expect. As of now, there are no details on who the Commanders are, or what the theme of each deck is outside of the colors and the name. The names certainly sound interesting given the context, especially Miracle Worker. It has a decidedly ominous ring given that these are horror decks.
Experience the thrill of overcoming impossible odds and uncover chilling secrets in Magic’s first contemporary horror set. “Who will survive, and what will be left of them?” That’s a question both Magic fans and our story protagonists will be asking themselves. Duskmourn: House of Horror takes place on a new plane, Duskmourn, inspired by the genre of modern horror from the 1980s up through the present day. But there’s a twist! Duskmourn isn’t just any plane, it’s an infinite haunted house populated by horrors, nightmares, and other terrifying entities. – Magic: The Gathering press release
It’s already been a very busy year for Magic: The Gathering. Their Modern Horizons 3 set, which featured the Eldrazi titans, was just released this month. Their Assassin’s Creed set will debut on July 5th with pre-orders currently available. Their Lord of the Rings set was also recently honored with two Origin Awards from GAMA and the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design.
We will keep you updated on details of the Duskmourn: House of Horror set as they become available.
