Hidetaka Miyazaki is well-known in the gaming world as being the creator of the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, and even the widely popular Elden Ring. Since Elden Ring’s release in 2022, the game has sold millions of copies. It has become, by far, the most popular game in the Soulsborne series. The news keeps improving as FromSoftware is working on “various new projects.” This comes from the legend himself, Hidetaka Miyazaki. Let’s break this announcement down.
Recently, FromSoftware’s parent Kadokawa announced that its studios are working on “20 console titles.” This news is great and eludes to new console experiences being worked on by the Soulsborne series creators. Now, we have confirmation that FromSoftware is working on new titles. Unfortunately, we can only speculate about what they will be.
At the Golden Joysticks Awards, FromSoftware won the award for Best Game Expansion thanks to the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. This massive expansion took the world by storm earlier this year by going above and beyond what is currently in the base game. Miyazaki was not there to accept the award and instead showed a video of his acceptance.
He starts the video by saying, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible honor of receiving the Best Game Expansion award for the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree from Elden Ring.” He went on to apologize about the two-year wait for the DLC. Near the end of the video, Miyazaki stated, “We are currently working on various new projects and I hope you will look forward to what we have in store next.”
The timing of this announcement may seem coincidental because it was reported that Sony is currently in talks to purchase Kadokawa which would give them ownership of FromSoftware. This leads us to believe that we could see a revival of the Bloodborne series. At the very least, we know that we will be seeing multiple new projects from the company in the coming years. Get ready for a possible announcement at the Game Awards.
