A new Overwatch 2 comic has been released, going over the game’s newest hero, Hazard. As a bonus, we also know the Tank’s voice actor now, as Conor McLeod read the new comic, which focuses on Hazard lore and how he got to the point of stealing an experiment from Oasis. McLeod doesn’t have a large portfolio for his acting credits, and Overwatch 2 appears to be his first video game role.
Hazard lore comic synopsis
The comic, named Tear It Down, gives us a background look into Hazard’s lore, which the initial cinematic didn’t do at all. Growing up, Hazard felt alone in his life. Kids seemed to always pick on him, and his parents fought all the time up until his mother’s death when he was four years old. The rest of Hazard’s developmental time as a youth appears to have been something he loathed, pushing him to focus on building his body to be strong and join the military at the first chance he could get.
As a new recruit, Hazard sustained serious injuries when an Overwatch jet was shot out of the sky and landed on him. He lost his right arm and both feet in the process. While the military gave him meds and basic prosthetics to live out the rest of his life, it wasn’t until he found the Phreaks and received significant cybernetic modifications that he felt his life had meaning. He refers to the Phreaks as his first family and joins them on a crusade to fight back against the system.
Finally, the attack on Oasis is brought about when the university uses a predictive model to tell the authorities where the next attack is. The Phreaks then add a new modification to Hazard to absorb the gel substance from the Oasis spawn room. We also seem to get confirmation that Moira created that gel but it has been under constant surveillance by the university since. It will be interesting to hear in-game chatter between her and Hazard as we learn more about what exactly this substance is.
