Imagine if there was a way to increase the player count in Helldivers 2. That sounds pretty great, right? Perhaps the team could create full-scale invasions with large groups of players joining in. It would increase excitement and add more depth to the galactic war. That is the topic of today’s article and it is thanks to Helldivers 2 CCO Pilestedt’s response to a fan on X. It seems as though “massive PVE battles” could be coming to Helldivers 2 in the future. At least, Pilestedt’s comment leaves us hopeful that it could happen.
Recently, the Helldivers 2 community has been focused on creation with one fan offering a redesign of the game’s armor system. Another fan created their own western-themed premium warbond. With so many ideas bouncing around in the Helldivers 2 community, one fan named Dan on X who also uses the username @swfcdanh2 decided to ask Pilestedt about increasing the game’s player size.
In the comment, Dan said, “Random place to ask this, but have you guys thought about adding massive PVE battles? Something like 20-30 players (maybe even more) all in the same space fighting hordes of enemies?” Already, this sounds amazing to us as it would be awesome to see something like a 64-player game mode where you defend a planet against a full-scale invasion.
In response to this comment, Pilestedt stated, “Yeah – it comes up pretty often at the studio. But there are engine limitations. We’ll see what happens.” Dan then commented, “This could definitely get me playing the game again.” Based on the comment, we can’t help but be excited about the possibility of larger game modes in the future. If 64-player game modes aren’t possible, it would still be nice to have something larger than a four-player game mode. Maybe Arrowhead can start small with a 12 or 16-player game mode to test things out. Anything that could lead us to the “massive PVE battles” for Helldivers 2 that Dan mentioned.
