There is no denying that the latest update for Helldivers 2 titled The Escalation of Freedom is a bit of a bomb. With the update came many nerfs and tweaks that players were definitely not asking for. This is just another instance of how Arrowhead just can’t seem to catch a break. Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani took to X to tell everyone that he had “over 200 tweets with suggestions and opinions” related to the expansion. It looks like Arrowhead may learn from this latest misstep as Jorjani has let everyone know that Helldivers 2 playtests may be coming in the future.
@ReddingWilson on X replied to Jorjani by saying, “A few other live service games have a “player test environment” for a final round of feedback before release to gather feedback from a more diverse playgroup than an internal QA team can muster. It might prevent a lot of this kind of drama.” Jorjani replied that it was “on the wishlist.”
With how Arrowhead wants to focus on player feedback, it would make sense to have a few Helldivers 2 playtests in the future to test out updates before they go live. @ReddingWilson is right when they say this could “prevent a lot of drama.” Recently, a Helldivers 2 Discord server poll showed that players are not very happy with the Escalation of Freedom update. This can also be seen in the game’s latest reviews on Steam as many players have struck the game with bad reviews.
Jorjani also stated on X that he “spent the last few hours reading and commenting on your thoughts on the latest patch.” He thanked everyone for the feedback and suggestions and stated that “there’ll be more improvements and tweaks coming.” Let’s just hope that the Arrowhead devs take the time to set the record straight and un-nerf the weapons that they ruthlessly destroyed in the latest update.
