Sony and Arrowhead Games Studios recently announced that all Helldivers 2 players will need a PSN account if they wish to play the game. That isn’t an issue for players who are already playing on PlayStation, but for those on Steam, they will need to create a new account if they don’t have one. They will also need to link these accounts if they wish to continue playing the game. While this won’t take effect immediately, by June, everyone should be switched over to the new system. This is unfortunate news for many and they showed their distaste by review bombing Helldivers 2 on Steam.
If you check the recent reviews for Helldivers 2, you will see that everything remains mostly positive for a long period of time. This then takes a dive around the end of April when the last Helldivers 2 update was released and the PSN account announcement was made.
One user posted on the official Helldivers 2 Discord page asking the community manager known as Twinbeard, “Thoughts on the roughly 6k negative reviews today on steam?” Twinbeard responded to the quest by stating, “It’s sad of course, and not representative of what people truly think about the game, but that’s sth that can happen when people are frustrated with something. I hope the tide will turn back as things get ironed out and we hopefully will get more info.”
To help those who feel that they will be affected by the linking requirement, Twinbeard also provided the link for Sony support so that users can voice their concerns. He also pointed the finger at the true culprit in the matter which is Sony by stating, “It’s Sony’s decision, not ours. Secondly, we don’t have all the details about region-related issues yet. We’re chasing Sony to get more info.”
It’s obvious that Arrowhead doesn’t quite have all of the details yet and Sony is more or less steering the U.S.S Helldivers 2 vessel. We will need to see where things go from here but they aren’t looking very bright for Helldivers 2 at this moment.
