If you ask Bethesda, “War never changes.” It has been a tagline in the Fallout universe for a long time but it seems this statement holds true in Helldivers 2 as well. No matter what progress players make, it seems Joel has other plans. Enemies typically take back planets shortly after we capture them and plenty have complained that they are constantly fighting on the same planets. This has caused the player count to plummet over the months since the game’s release. One player might have a solution to help aid us in Helldivers 2 and it comes in the form of a planetary upgrade system.
Reddit user Bennyandthejetz1 posted a plan for a planetary upgrade system for Helldivers 2. They broke the system down into three steps. These are:
- Step 1: Pick a planet controlled by Super Earth
- Step 2: Use Requisition Slips to upgrade the defenses of the planet as a community
- Step 3: Once enough Requisitions have been donated by the community for each upgrade, they are unlocked and will assist in the defense of the planet until it is lost.
The user also offered some examples of defensive measures we could place on the planets. These include infantry barracks, bases, and naval blockades. Others in the comments suggested additional options such as artillery, additional eagle support, more stratagems, and more.
The idea of the community coming together to pool our resources to help defend a planet would be a great way to continue the war and make it feel like our efforts matter. Of course, Joel could always just throw our efforts in the trash but it would be nice to see the community work together to help defend the planets we take. A feature like this would go a long way in helping the community feel like their efforts matter and that they are helping a greater cause. Perhaps we will see something like this happen after the Escalation of Freedom expansion goes live.
