While things are starting to look better for Helldivers 2, we would like to bring folks back to May 2024. Helldivers 2 was still pretty fresh at this time (having only been released a few months prior) and Sony pulled a sinister move. The corporation made Helldivers 2 require a PSN account. This alienated a large portion of the player base and prevented many from being able to join their friends in the fight for democracy. Because of this, the game got massively review-bombed on Steam causing Sony to reverse the decision. Shortly after, the “Review Bomb” cape for Helldivers 2 was born. Now, players are debating whether or not now would be a good time to release this masterpiece.
Helldivers 2 has seen a sharp rise in popularity thanks to a tremendous patch released by Arrowhead which buffed many of the game’s weapons. There is even talk of the Jump Pack getting a change in the next patch. With this increase in player count, some think it might be time to release the “Review Bomb” cape which was teased by Pilestedt shortly after the Sony fiasco was over.
Recently, user WizardsinSpace posted on Reddit saying, “You know what, I think it’s time to release the “review bomb” cape. Sony will never fold, so it’s now or never.” Thinking about the cape, now might be a good time to release it thanks to the game’s spike in popularity. It will allow more players to get their hands on this piece of memorabilia for their characters. Of course, many also agree that the cape should only be released when every country on the banned list can once again purchase Helldivers 2 on PlayStation.
One user commented, “I’m good if they don’t release it honestly. It was made with the hopes that the countries that can no longer play, would be able to play again. And that didn’t happen. I genuinely think it would be in bad taste to release it. Plus as cool as it looks, it’s not a big deal if we don’t get it.” Many agreed with this statement, showing support for their fellow players who still can’t purchase the game. Keep in mind, that those who bought Helldivers 2 on PlayStation before the ban can still play the game, they just can’t purchase it or see the store page. No matter what, Arrowhead wants to “find the right time” to release the “Review Bomb” cape for Helldivers 2.
