Through The Doors of Durin is releasing this August for the The One Ring RPG. From Free League Publishing, the set lets you explore Moria, home of the dwarves featured in The Fellowship of the Ring. Adventure through Moria’s Khazad-dûm this summer and you don’t even have to speak friend to enter. Well, not to pick it up that is, you’ll probably have to in the game itself.
The upcoming release is set years before Balin and his crew ventured into the mines. It’s a standalone adventure designed for Loremasters to create their own unique story within Moria. You’ll visit Dwarrowdelf where the dwarven kings sat on their thrones, delve beneath the mountains searching for Mithril and plunder, and perhaps awake something in the deep dark places of the world that should have been left asleep. Since Balin’s journey to retake Moria, orcs and goblins have take root in the mountain.
The campaign was funded in under five minutes and raised more than one million dollars. The module contains the following:
- And At The Gates, The Trumpets Rang: This expansion contains rivals, allies, and patrons in the quest for Moria, as well as a history of the Dwarven city from its founding to its fall.
- Journeys in the Dark: Journey rules adjusted for underground exploration, Moria-specific Undertakings, and advice on running games and campaigns set in the city.
- Fell Foes: A list of the Orcs and other enemies that may be found in the city – and rules for risking an encounter with Durin’s Bane.
- The Mansions of the Dwarves: This section is the largest part of the book, describing Landmarks and hazards in the various regions of Moria.
There are two versions of the campaign releasing on August 1. Through The Doors of Durin is being developed for The One Ring, Free League’s own TTRPG system. While Shadow of Khazad-dûm is under development for The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game system which uses Dungeons & Dragons 5E ruleset.
Both copies will be available for $45.20 when the release on August 1.
