The Nintendo eShop has had a reward program for a long time now. For every purchase that you make, you get Gold Points. These can then be used as a way to get discounts on future purchases from the shop. While it requires getting a lot of coins for a substantial discount, it was something that made it worthwhile to purchase games from the online store. Well, Nintendo has announced it will be discontinuing the Gold Points reward program.
The Gold Points announcement comes after Nintendo has partially revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 – the successor to the Switch. With that being said, there is a possibility of a new system that could take the place of the Gold Points.
Nintendo announces the discontinuation of Gold Points
Nintendo posted on its official website about the discontinuation of Gold Point in the eShop. The support page lets fans know that the Gold Point system will officially be discontinued on March 24, 2025. After this date, “it will no longer be possible to earn My Nintendo Gold Points when purchasing digital content. You might be wondering what will happen to your existing points. Well, Nintendo has answers to all of your questions.
After the discontinuation of the points, you will still be able to use your existing points for 12 months after you earn them. So, if you purchase an item on March 23, 2025, you will have until March 23, 2026, to redeem the points earned. You will also still be able to earn points leading up to March 24, 2025 by purchasing or pre-ordering digital games through the Nintendo eShop.

There is no telling if there will be another reward system added to the eShop at a later date but with the arrival of the Switch 2, we could see something else pop up. Despite Gold Points being discontinued, you will still be able to earn Platinum Points after March 24, 2025.
