The slow drip of Nintendo news continues as the game file sizes for various Nintendo Switch 2 games along with the GameCube classics collection have been revealed. Luckily, as you might expect, Nintendo’s games do not see a massive jump in file size from the previous Switch.
Early Nintendo Switch 2 game file sizes
Wario 64 posted a brief summary of all of the recently announced lineup of games for the Nintendo Switch 2 via the Japan eShop. Leading the pack is Mario Kart World, which comes in at 23.4 GB. Donkey Kong Bananza will come in at a mere 10 GB and the GameCube Nintendo Classics will be 3.5GB.
As for some of the Switch 2 editions of popular Nintendo Switch 1 games, Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV will be 7.7 GB which is a 2.4 GB increase from its Switch 1 file size. Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star Crossed World is the other game mentioned, coming in at 5.7 GB and will oddly see a .1 GB decrease compared to its original Switch 1 file size of 5.8 GB.
Information like this is very useful to the consumer especially when budgeting the internal storage space that the Switch 2 will have which will be 256 GB. Of course, if storage runs thin when downloading all of your favorite games to your shiny new console Nintendo did mention the storage your device is capable of can be expanded with the use of a compatible Micro SD express card. It’s also worth noting that the Nintendo Switch 2 will not be compatible with the current microSDXC cards that are used on current Switch models.
Nintendo is well-known for getting the most out of their first-party titles when it comes to storage space. It will be interesting to see how much space games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Fortnite take up on the new console.
