With the secretive Nintendo Switch Online playtest on the horizon it looks like leaks are coming to the surface in regards to what this hoopla is all about and it turns out Nintendo might be planning a Minecraft-inspired MMO.
In what seems like record time, a first wave of info was posted by X user @Ethan_ThisGuy. The post in question featured a ton of images of the playtests content and Nintendo was quick to DMCA said images. The images in question featured information about the goal of this game which is to develop a massive, yet expansive planet with creativity and farmed resources. But beware, as you trek through these uncharted lands you’ll come across enemies, resources, and new lands that all aid in your journey.
In order to properly progress through this game special tools known as beacons will be essential to the overall experience. These beacons will emit heat and light that will purify the land in which you’re trying to build on. The trick with beacons appears to be the higher you place them the larger your beacon zone becomes. And while in the beacon zone you can store all of your tools, resources and whatever else you come across on your adventure.
Now following that leak, a Bluesky user by the name of Sky began posting further details on this datamine. From this batch of leaks the playtest itself is going by the codename “Rockstock,” and there does appear to be a list of mechs or even vehicles players would use to traverse the planet. As for the game development team, Nintendo’s EPD 4 who is the group behind games like 1-2 Switch and Nintendo Switch Sports seems to be at the helm for the project.
For those of you wondering, this Nintendo Switch Online playtest program is scheduled to take place between October 24 – November 6, so it’s safe to assume even more details will be coming to light fairly soon.
